“The kayaks become our burden once again.” Five days into the expedition, and with very little opportunity to paddle, the river abruptly disappears into a grate and the crew once again trudges along on foot. Below a hydropower plant, the water returns the stolen whitewater and it flows with a vengeance. Beyond the Chatelet Bridge awaits a deep gorge unrunnable at high flows. But the levels are prime, giving the kayakers 50 kilometers of intense whitewater.
