What would you say if your friend suggested that you run 93 miles around the base of the US’s largest active volcano in 3 days? The Wonderland Trail at Mount Rainer National Park is known for its stunning beauty, with breathtaking views of the mountain from every angle, and it’s considered a must-see among hikers, backpackers and trail runners! People have come seeking adventure and communion with nature since long before the trail was formally established in 1915, and when Alan’s friend Devin suggested they run the Wonderland Trail, he leapt at the idea! After training all summer and getting some pointers from legendary mountain runner Scott Jurek, Alan and his friend set off to find adventure on the iconic 93-mile Mt. Rainier circumnavigation—and we joined them for the ride!
We would like to acknowledge the Indigenous peoples who have lived on and cared for Tahoma and the surrounding land—now administered as Mount Rainier National Park and the Wonderland Trail. This land has been the ancestral homeland of the Cowlitz, Muckleshoot, Nisqually, Puyallup, Squaxin Island, Yakama and Coast Salish people for thousands of years. We recognize and honor their enduring spiritual and cultural connections to this place. Learn more about recreating on native land: https://www.rei.com/blog/stewardship/…
