When we think of professional athletes, we often don’t imagine they do anything other than their sport. But in a sport like ultra-running, in addition to being a winning, competitive athlete, you almost have to have a full-time career to make ends meet. Elite runner Rachel Drake does just that. In one part of her life, she breaks the tape at the finish of 50-kilometer trail races, and in the other part she makes medical breakthroughs in a laboratory. While her scientific career is something she is truly passionate about, the tricky part is finding balance between those passions.
