In December of 2016, President Obama designated Bears Ears a national monument under the Antiquities Act, protecting it for future generations. Bears Ears means different things to different people. Though unknown to many Americans, this landscape is a sacred home for Native Americans, a world-class rock climbing destination, a wonder for outdoor enthusiasts and a mecca for archeologists. But lawmakers are pushing to rescind this designation in favor of privatization and development. It is imperative that we protect this culturally rich and recreationally spectacular landscape and keep public lands in public hands. Bears Ears is absolutely one of those places.
