This is a full-time seasonal camp counselor and outdoor guiding position based in Durango, CO from 5/26/25 – 8/11/25 for a total of ten weeks. Ideal applicants include those who are at least 21+ years old and have outdoor education, youth development, childcare, and/or summer camp experience!

Our Head Counselors are responsible for providing leadership in a cabin of 4-6 campers in one of our four distinct age groups in addition to co-leading backcountry wilderness trips between 2-5 days in length throughout the summer in the San Juan Mountains of southwestern Colorado and canyon country of southeastern Utah. We provide a comprehensive two-week Staff Training to cover all aspects of our program ranging from unique Colvig culture and traditions, youth development, and outdoor skill development and leadership.
Compensation:
We offer competitive compensation with Head Counselors earning a minimum of $4,500 for a full ten-week season (5/26/25 – 8/11/25). Head Counselors also receive a free Wilderness First Aid (WFA) training from NOLS during our Staff Training if they do not already have a wilderness medicine certification. All staff receive free housing and meals for the duration of their contract. Staff can also apply for reimbursable Travel Allowances ($0.13/road mile), field/experience bonuses, a Rental Assistance Program, and will receive bonuses for relevant certifications such as Wilderness First Aid, First Responder, LNT, Lifeguarding etc. Please click here for a description of our bonuses and travel reimbursement information.
