Death in the adventure community is inevitable. Losing friends and colleagues all too soon is an experience that those engaged in extreme sports know intimately; that doesn’t make the reality any easier. During the 2017 Banff Centre Mountain Film and Book Festival, we asked three adventurers to discuss the impact that these deaths can have, how the community comes together in times of tragedy, and the reason adventurers keep going back for more—despite the risk.
