Job Description

The School of Community Resources and Development in the Watts College of Public Service and Community Solutions at Arizona State University invites applications for one, full-time, benefits-eligible, academic-year (9 month), career-track position of Clinical Assistant Professor to begin August 2024.

The School of Community Resources and Development (SCRD) is one of the four schools in the Watts College of Public Service and Community Solutions, a vibrant community of scholars actively committed to excellence in education and innovative responses to collective problems. In Hospitality, Leisure, Sport, and Tourism, SCRD is ranked #7 in the world and #2 in the U.S. according to the Center for World University Rankings.

SCRD is located at ASU’s Downtown Phoenix campus, a dynamic hub of the multi-campus Arizona State University that provides a multitude of academic and professional connections for students. We provide internationally recognized interdisciplinary research expertise and innovative academic programs in community development, therapeutic recreation, nonprofit leadership and management, parks, recreation and sport management, and tourism development and management. Courses are delivered through in-person, online, and hybrid platforms.

JOB RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Develop, manage, supervise, and deliver outdoor recreation/experience/leadership courses.
  • Teach in the undergraduate Parks and Recreation Management (PRM) program.
  • Hire, train, and supervise outdoor trip leaders.
  • Coordinate and facilitate outdoor trips, clinics, and workshops.
  • Build partnerships within and outside ASU to provide outdoor experiences to various constituencies (e.g., Learning Enterprise).
  • Work with industry partners to build gear rental opportunities and possibly develop an outdoor recreation equipment rental program.
  • Follow best practices in leave-no-trace, environmental science, environmental education, and respect for indigenous peoples.

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS

  • M.S. or M.A. in Parks, Recreation, Tourism; Outdoor Leadership; Nature-Based Education; Leisure Studies, or related field.
  • Minimum of two years professional experience in experiential education, outdoor leadership, or a related field.
  • Consistent with ASU’s Charter, a demonstrated commitment to inclusion.

DESIRED QUALIFICATIONS

  • Ph.D. in Parks, Recreation, Tourism; Outdoor Leadership; Nature-Based Education; Leisure Studies, or related field.
  • Experience in university-level teaching.
  • Experience managing outdoor gear rental.
  • Experience in program development.
  • Experience in community partnership building.
  • Demonstrated ability to teach effectively to any population.
  • Demonstrated ability to work with diverse populations.
  • Certified in First Aid/CPR.
  • Certified Wilderness First Responder.
