Job Description

Assistant Program Coordinator

Eager to take your career in environmental and outdoor education to the next level? Nature’s Classroom New England is looking for a dedicated Assistant Program Coordinator (APC) to join our residential outdoor education program this fall. The APC plays a crucial role in ensuring smooth program operation, assisting the Program Coordinator (PC) in administrative tasks, and stepping into teaching roles when necessary. You’ll also work collaboratively with the PC to train and support our outdoor education instructors.

Who we are

As the largest outdoor and environmental education program in the northeastern US, we specialize in experiential education with a focus on science, nature, and social-emotional learning. We provide engaging and transformative programming for elementary and middle school students, hosting overnight field trips for hundreds of schools each spring and fall at our seven picturesque sites.

Responsibilities

Assisting the PC in contacting schools, creating schedules, and handling programming when the PC is away.

  • Supervising schools and specific school sections during their visit, handling all aspects of programming including communication with schools, program oversight, and staff supervision.
  • Participating in staff training by helping with schedule creation, teaching classes, and leading training sessions.
  • Assigning resource tasks to staff and acting as a role model for instructors.
  • Providing support and appropriate feedback to fellow instructors.
  • Engaging in daily meetings with the PC and observing instructors’ teaching as needed.
  • Assisting with curriculum enhancements and improvements.
  • Undertaking other administrative duties as assigned by the PC.

Work schedule

The work schedule runs from Monday through Friday each week of the spring season. The APC will assist the PC with staff training starting mid-March.  The spring season will finish on June 7, 2024.

Salary & benefits

The APC earns a weekly rate of $800. We provide shared accommodations and meals when schools are on-site. Food on weekends is supplemented through a stipend for the whole staff team. As housing is shared, please note that only service animals are allowed. No ESAs.

Qualifications

Successful candidates will have experience working with elementary and middle school students, preferably in an educational or outdoor setting. Leadership or staff management experience is highly desirable. The APC must be physically capable of navigating uneven terrain quickly during emergencies. A Bachelor’s degree is preferred, but not required. COVID vaccination highly recommended, not required.
