Starting Salary: $5,100, increases based on prior leadership experience

SUMMARY DESCRIPTION
The Program Coordinator, known internally as the Activity Coordinator, is responsible for managing the daily camp schedule while also creating camper schedules, staff schedules, and selecting elective period offerings. The Activity Coordinator serves as a mentor and supervisor to Chewonki’s activity counselors, providing support for nearly all aspects of their jobs including the planning, preparation, and implementation of the activity curriculum. The Activity Coordinator is expected to support the growth and development of all activity staff in working towards their personal best as an educator, caretaker, and employee along with the support of the Head Activity Counselor.
ESSENTIAL RESPONSIBILITIES
- Work to honor and uphold the principles of diversity, equity, inclusion, and a lens of anti-racism in the best interest of participants, constituents, and staff across the organization
- A willingness to work as a team member among the camp program and the greater Chewonki community
- Create and manage the daily camp schedule including cabin, staff, and individual camper schedules
Communicate schedules clearly and consistently with camp team, support teams, and curriculum partners
- Directly supervise activity counselors, and:
- Conduct observations and provide feedback to activity staff to support staff development
- Organize regular individual and team check-ins with activity counselors and provide support as needed
- Assist curriculum partners with tasks related to the planning and preparation of the activity curriculum (e.g. ordering supplies, preparing activity resources, planning special events)
- Maintain essential duties as member of the Coordinator team
- Meet with other Coordinator Team members to discuss and address camp concerns
- Participate in Leader of the Day (LoD) rotation to ensure camp schedule runs smoothly
- Uphold the Chewonki Foundation’s mission and DEI Statement
- Instill joy and enthusiasm into the daily life of camp
ADDITIONAL RESPONSIBILITIES
- Work on the Chewonki campus and share meals with the community
- Contribute to and collaborate with the Chewonki community through committees and foundation wide events
- Share the collective responsibility within risk management (physical, behavioral, institutional, etc.) by:
- Using sound judgment
- Operating within your skill set and Chewonki protocols
- Responding to and/ or alerting the appropriate person(s) when you see something that may compromise safety
- Fulfill all other duties as assigned
PREREQUISITES
- Experience in program management, preferred
- Familiarity with CampMinder preferred
- Experience supervising or leading young adults, preferred
- Organized, strategic, and detail oriented
- At Least 21 years old to drive participants
- Digital literacy (Google Suite, etc.)
- Must complete fingerprinting requirements/pass criminal background check with the Maine Department of Education
- Driver’s license approved by Chewonki’s insurance carrier
- The Chewonki Foundation requires that 100% of staff are vaccinated against COVID-19, as allowed for by the U.S. Equal Employment Opportunity Commission. Proof of completed COVID-19 vaccination will be required upon acceptance of a job offer.
