To assist the Associate Director and Director of the Bowdoin Outing Club in leading the largest student organization in daily operations, organized outings, and New Student Orientation Trips. This position blends administrative responsibilities with student mentorship, teaching, and outdoor field instruction for a variety of outdoor disciplines which may include whitewater kayaking, whitewater canoeing, whitewater rafting, backpacking, canoe tripping, winter camping, cross-country skiing, alpine skiing, and telemark skiing, among others.
In addition to introducing students to various outdoor activities, the Assistant Director also works with students on honing their outdoor technical and leadership skills. The Assistant Director works directly with the trip leader training program, a semester-long program that teaches students how to effectively lead multi-day wilderness backpacking and canoeing trips for their peers.
The BOC is in a prime location for having access to amazing outdoor classrooms, including Maine’s Western Mountains and rivers, Baxter State Park, and the White Mountains in New Hampshire. The Assistant Director also works alongside the other BOC staff to develop and implement initiatives to improve access and opportunity to the outdoors for all Bowdoin students.
Salary Range for this position is expected to be: Minimum $50,000 – Maximum $60,000
