Assist the waterfront manager in overseeing eight+ weeks of free swim and small craft boating on a 75-acre freshwater lake. Provide direct lifeguard supervision for to up to 50 campers ages 5-16. Assist waterfront manager during training weeks to provide water safety training to approximately 25 camp staff members. Abide by and enforce all waterfront, state, and American Camp Association rules/regulations and participate in on-going training, enrichment, and practice sessions. In addition to free-swim, lifeguarding responsibilities include canoe, kayak, paddle-board, and sunfish sailing instruction/supervision, leading waterfront carnivals, and assisting with other camp activities when requested.
Qualifications: Applicants must hold the following certifications: Lifeguarding, First Aid or higher, adult/infant/child CPR or CPR for the Professional Rescuer. Must pass the Rhode Island Non-surf test which requires demonstrating rescue techniques. It is administered by the state in late June and costs $10. Previous lifeguarding, small craft, or swim instruction experience preferred. All certifications must be current for entire summer. Must be 16 years or older by first day of employment, 18 years old or older preferred.
Pay/Hours: $10.50 – $15.00 per hour. 35-40 hours per week, 6-10 hour workday depending on the waterfront schedule, 30 minute unpaid lunch, some evening and weekend work; generally a half day on Friday (3-6 hours). No work when waterfront is closed due to inclement weather.
