Responsibilities: Rock Climbing Instructors are responsible for working with the climbing director to plan rock-climbing expeditions in Western North Carolina for young climbers ranging from beginning to advanced skill levels. Staff will teach campers techniques and skills to maximize their enjoyment of climbing and improve their abilities. Beginning climbers will be introduced to all aspects of climbing and advanced campers can progress to multi-pitch routes and mock leading. The climbing program utilizes our climbing tower, as well as many local natural climbing areas including Looking Glass, Cedar Rock, Linville Gorge, and Rumbling Bald. The staff work with three other climbing staff to maintain safety standards, teach campers, and ensure the day-to-day quality of programming. Other duties include supervising and mentoring campers as cabin counselors.
Qualifications: All staff must be at least 18 years old with one full year after high school. Experience with traditional rock climbing techniques and teaching. CPR and Wilderness First Aid, or higher certification, required.
