Responsibilities: Whitewater Canoeing Instructors are responsible for helping the canoeing director to plan canoe expeditions in Western North Carolina for young paddlers ranging from beginning to advanced skill levels. They are responsible for front-line skill instruction and trip leadership, with the goal of maximizing campers’ enjoyment of canoeing, interpersonal relationships, and skills. The canoeing program utilizes our lake as well as many local rivers including Green, Nantahala, Watauga, Tuckasegee, and French Broad Rivers. Other duties include supervising and mentoring campers as cabin counselors.
Qualifications: All staff must be at least 18 years old with one full year after high school. Experience with whitewater canoeing and teaching. Candidates should be solid open-boat paddlers in Class II whitewater with experience in Class III water. CPR and Wilderness First Aid, or higher certification, required.
