Brevard College seeks enthusiastic teachers to fill two tenure-track faculty positions (with appropriate degree) as Assistant Professor of Wilderness Leadership and Experiential Education (WLEE), beginning fall 2020.
Successful candidates will possess either (1) a Ph.D. in a field related to Wilderness Leadership and Experiential Education, Outdoor Education or (2) a Ph.D. with at least 18 graduate hours in WLEE, Outdoor Education or a related discipline and extensive field experience. We seek enthusiastic teachers to contribute to a strong and growing WLEE Program that emphasizes experiential education and application based in the liberal arts.
Successful candidates are willing and able to teach courses at all levels of the undergraduate curriculum ranging from introductory courses to upper-level courses, including interdisciplinary service courses. WLEE faculty teaching responsibilities include Introduction to Outdoor Education; leading extended learning expeditions with the Immersion Semester; lower and upper-level skills courses in outdoor technical skills (including paddling, climbing, backpacking, sea kayaking, mountain biking, navigation, swiftwater rescue, etc.) as well as upper level academic courses in areas such as leadership development, program administration, and risk management. The ideal candidates have general experience in the range of outdoor activities, with advanced skill expertise in one or more of the areas.
The individual in this position will also advise students, serve on campus committees, and contribute to the life of Brevard College. There is an opportunity to be selected to provide administrative leadership and serve as the WLEE Major Coordinator.
