Job Description

Are you looking for an opportunity to develop your skills in caring for others, squish bugs with a Kleenex, and juggle a dozen things at once? Are you resilient, sturdy, and driven? Are you ready to reach outside yourself and your comfort zone? Do you want to see a real difference in yourself after just seven short weeks? Interlochen Arts Camp is looking for a select group of hearty individuals who can answer “yes” to these questions to serve as Cabin Counselors at our premiere summer camp program. This position includes housing and ALL of your meals!  You will serve as the primary caregiver for students in your cabin, create exciting programs, and guide your charges through the adventure of living in a cabin in the woods.  You are responsible for student safety, developing a community in your cabin, helping students learn through experience and trial and error. You will serve as a role model in attitude, behavior, and actions. 

DATES and SALARY:

  • Institutes Counselor: $700 (plus room and board) – Tuesday, June 16, 2020 –  Sunday, June 28, 2020

POSITION REQUIREMENTS and QUALIFICATIONS:

  • You share a living environment with high school age campers

  • You must be at least 18 years of age. In most cases, Camp Life staff must have one year of independent living following high school graduation in order to be considered for employment in this area.

  • Camp Life staff must have the ability to effectively engage in appropriate communication (verbal and non-verbal) with students and other staff.

  • You will perform your duties both inside and outside, rain or shine.

  • You will need to work cooperatively with your peers and divisional leadership

  • You need to know how to take care of yourself so you can take care of others (adequate sleep, activity, nutrition, mental acuity, managing emotions).

  • You need physical and emotional stamina. This is hard, challenging, and rewarding work.

  • You must have a commitment to inclusion and acceptance of others.

  • You need the ability to think on your feet, and manage emergent situations should they arise.
