Summary

The Rocky Mountain Program Associate Program Director of Safety and Course Delivery works under the supervision of the Program Director and is responsible for coordinating program curriculum and safety, ensuring high-quality course delivery and operations.

The APD oversees and ensures safe, quality, family and student-centered programming. This is a management position, with significant responsibilities to supervise and ensure high-quality systems and processes are implemented throughout the management team and field staff.

This is an office-based position, with frequent field visits/travel as needed.

People Management

  • Manage and supervise assigned Program Managers in their responsibilities, ensuring courses and student experiences consistently meet COBS’ safety and quality benchmarks.
  • Manage and supervise Program Oncall Coordinator.
  • Develop annual KPIs with supervisees and oversee performance throughout the year.
  • Ensure supervisees are held to COBS performance and disciplinary policies and processes.  

Program Quality

  • Deliver COBS training as required.
  • Manage and maintain RMP staff safety resources, including Field Policies and Course Safety Briefings, updating seasonally.
  • Maintain and update Course Area and Course Management Plan resources annually.
  • Oversee and manage COBS field mapping needs
  • Manage and maintain all course supervision resources.
  • Work with Student Services to continually develop “COBS Quality Family Experience” communication including student course materials, student evaluations, and family communications.
  • Oversee the implementation of OB Professional Learning Lab evaluations to inform data driven decisions.

 

Safety and Risk Management

  • Support implementation of the National Safety Standards throughout COBS.
  • Monitor compliance with OBUSA and COBS policies and procedures.
  • Accountable for tracking RMP safety learnings and policy violations and related action items, including the collection, maintenance and distribution of all incident and safety related materials including the national incident database.
  • Oversee RMP incident reporting, analysis and database management in line with OBUSA standards.
  • Partake in Safety Working Group meetings, and ensure RMP implementation of decisions around paperwork, policy, process as it relates to field staff.
  • Support PD in RMP Emergency Response System and train staff in its implementation as requested.  
  • Participate in COBS emergency response system as required.

Occupational Safety and Health

  • Support Occupational Safety and Health management throughout the organization, identifying areas outside of compliance.
  • Monitor OSHA compliance throughout the organization.

Administration and Reporting

  • Manage RMP course supervision schedule.
  • Oversee On-Call Board
  • Responsible for all RMPs challenge course management.

Special Projects

  • Implementation of OBUSA national initiatives.
  • Implementation of COBS grant initiatives.
  • Other duties as required.

Education and Work Experience

  • Minimum of 5 years of experience in the outdoor education field, including training and safety management responsibilities.
  • Experience in COBS activities, and an understanding of our course areas. 
  • Project management experience preferred.
  • ACCT LII Practitioner preferred.
  • Valid WFR, Epi, CPR certifications and Youth Mental Health training
  • American Challenge Course Technology certification preferred

 

Physical Requirements/Location

  • Sitting at a desk or computer at least 60% of the time.
  • Must be able to lift 40+ lbs
  • Ability to undertake field visits in extreme environments. 

 

Compensation and Benefits

  • Full Time, benefited position
  • Salary Range $39,000 – $42,000
  • Benefited position with Medical, Vision, Dental and PTO
