Job Description

Summary

The Twin Cities Logistics Coordinator (LC) directly supports the Logistics and Program Support Manager and programs? logistical needs including, support to maintain vehicle fleet, equipment inventory, course equipment and food packout. The LC supports the coordination of all food, transportation, logistics systems, supervising logistics staff/interns in the absence of Logistics and PSM and organizing logistics work space. The LC helps repair equipment and ensures equipment is in safe, working order.

Primary Responsibilities

  • Responsible for fully participating in excellent warehouse and food room organization, operation and cleanliness.
  • In coordination with the Twin Cities Logistics and Program Support Manager, work within present systems to alert them of upcoming shortages of food and gear.
  • Work alongside interns and volunteers, training them in various tasks.
  • Supply, clean, issue and de-issue all equipment and supplies for courses.
  • Perform needed repairs, acting within areas of expertise (sewing, boat repair, tent zippers) and learning new skills. Prepare equipment inventories and check for gear to be retired.
  • Maintains the student clothing in a clean and organized fashion.

Secondary Responsibilities

  • Actively participates in all-school functions, events, daily chores and travel trainings as deemed necessary.
  • Upholds and follows Voyageur Outward Bound School policies.
  • Supports program as needed, including driving and other duties.

Physical Requirements

  • Ability to participate in vigorous to moderate physical activity including but not limited to running, swimming, backpacking rock climbing, canoeing, skiing, etc.
  • Ability to lift and move a minimum of 70 pounds.
  • Possibly sitting at a desk or computer 30% of the time or greater.
  • Willingness and ability to work a non-standard, flexible schedule, as the training and program schedule demands.
  • Ability to travel to all VOBS program locations as needed.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities Required

  • Willing to work hard and take initiative to stay focused on project list despite constant distractions.
  • Flexibility, a deep well of patience, and a sense of humor are paramount.
  • Organizational skills and attention to detail to ensure proper care of gear and food.
  • Ability to work as a team member in a cooperative, positive environment.
  • Equipment repair and maintenance experience preferred, with strong technical abilities in one of the following categories: sewing, boat repair, stove repair, zippers.
  • Able to drive 15 passenger vehicles with trailer for up to 8 hrs/day
  • Valid driver?s license (must have held a license for at least three years)
  • Must complete background and motor vehicle record check
  • Defensive driving skills.
  • First Aid & CPR Training (certification available prior to employment or complete within 30 days of starting).
  • Must be at least 21 years of age.

Education and Work Experience

Previous work in a logistics or warehouse setting preferred.

Prior Outward Bound experience preferred.

Dates & Compensation

  • Spring staff orientation begins April 1st, 2020. Additional overnight field training during the last two weeks of April & May.
  • Seasonal work agreement is based on summer program enrollment through August.
  • Opportunities to extend seasonal employment through September & October available based on candidate?s qualifications, experience and most importantly, performance
  • Per diem pay according to the VOBS Field Staff Pay Scale, starts at $71/day.
