Overview
The American Youth Foundation-Merrowvista is a nonprofit outdoor and experiential education center specializing in youth development and character building for young people ages 8-18. We are a co-ed organization that runs onsite residential programming and wilderness adventure trips, all with the focus of helping young people discover and develop the best in who they are. The Aquatics Specialist will support the camp program by instructing swim lessons, lifeguarding and working as a member of the waterfront staff team.

Primary Responsibilities:

  • Assist with opening inventory of waterfront equipment, noting any needs.
  • Assist the waterfront team with waterfront set-up.
  • Teach 3-4 swim classes daily, following the Merrowvista swim program curriculum.
  • Lifeguard during free swims, small-group and early morning activities when scheduled.
  •  Manage safety at the waterfront, following and enforcing all waterfront safety guidelines.
  • Serve as a member of the waterfront team, assisting with safety orientation, lifeguarding duties, -and planning of waterfront events such as the water carnival.
  • Assist with the on-going care and maintenance of the waterfront equipment, insuring it is used -and put away appropriately.
  • Assist in general waterfront maintenance.
  • Participate in community activities and meals, and strive to model the mission and values of the American Youth Foundation.
  • Support the in-camp program by leading large-group, evening activities, reading stories and supporting campers and leaders during the evening.
  • Set personal and professional goals for the summer and work towards achieving those goals.

Qualifications:

  • Minimum 18 years of age.
  • Ability to work as a part of a team.
  • Current Lifeguard certification (or ability to pass a certification course at Merrowvista).
