Position description:
We are seeking Outdoor Education Guides to lead youth in outdoor adventures, develop character and wilderness survival skills, and grow into leaders.
We may have full or part-time positions available in a wide radius of Maryland and Virginia locations surrounding the Washington DC area, and are expanding out toward Baltimore, Frederick, Leesburg, Stafford and beyond.
Our academic year programs run 10 am – 3 pm on weekdays. Each program includes about 10 students that meet weekly at a local forested area. Instructors help students learn by implementing a variety of leadership roles, while exploring, playing and practicing wilderness survival skills.
Responsibilities:
• Help facilitate a dynamic nature-based outdoor-leadership program with a mixed-age group of students.
Desirable qualifications:
• Experience with primitive skills, tracking, wilderness awareness, wilderness survival programs.
• First Aid certification is good; WFA better, WFR+ ideal.
• Studied at the Tracker School, BOSS, Outward Bound, NOLS or similar program.
• Background with Waldorf Education, Montessori, Acton, experiential outdoor education or other teaching experience.
• Have a passion for sharing nature with children.
• Appreciate the importance of character development and personal growth, for yourself and students.
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
• Humble, curious, open and excited to learn and grow.
Salary: $150 – $225 / day
