About the Pacific Northwest Regional Director
The Pacific Northwest Regional Director is a key, full-time operator role based out of the Portland market. As a seasoned people leader, educator, and operations head, the position is integral to serving thousands of families in the Trackers Earth community.
Our team environment can be demanding, requiring intense dedication and caretaking for program safety and standards. Our programs are dynamic–including format, location, and ages of participants; we are seeking team members who will not just assimilate but thrive in variable environments while delivering fun and inclusive outdoor experiences for kids and families.
Responsibilities (What you’ll do):
- Lead a large number of adult teams across locations and disciplines. Responsibilities include daily scheduling, managing complex program logistics, and HR
- Be accountable for program safety, quality and standards
- Provide fun, engaging, and safe experiences for program participants and co-workers
- Exceed the expectations of Trackers Earth customers and families
- Organize, analyze, and respond to customer / parent communication.
- Report to management team on a daily and weekly basis
- Liaise with operations, talent, and HR teams daily and weekly
- Evaluate the performance of and provide feedback and reporting to team members with the goal of making programs better and more impactful.
- Organize, communicate and own relationships with external stakeholders including government agencies and community partners.
- Be responsible for administering risk management and governance frameworks and policies of Trackers Earth across teams and locations.
- A high level of communication effectiveness across: families, kids, and adults in group and individual settings.
- Liaise with product, marketing, finance, and strategy teams as directed
- Organize and deliver Trackers Earth curriculum and program experiences
- Ensure group activities for each age group are developmentally appropriate and engaging.
- Be a mentor, and remember what it’s like to be a kid
- Through Trackers Earth training, learning, and development, become familiar with company mission and values, and be additive to our team experience. Must like fun and a little edge and creativity !
- Recognize, mitigate, and respond to hazards to ensure a healthy and safe program for all staff and participants.
- Fulfill assigned duties in an emergency situation.
- Communicate health and safety information clearly and effectively to the Guild Director, Office Camp staff, other Team Coordinators, Teachers, Educators, Assistants, and other staff.
- Maintain and safeguard confidential information.
Qualifications and Requirements
- Must have worked with kids and submit to a background check
- Must love connecting kids and families to the outdoors while creating safe and fun experiences
- 7+ year experience in leading and operating educational programming (or demonstrable equivalent)
- 5+ years experience in managing teams
- Must reside in area / city of program delivery
- Must be physically able to lead students in hikes of up to 10 miles in a day.
- Must have visual, perceptual, cognitive and judgment ability to: recognize and respond verbally to health and safety concerns and appropriately mitigate and respond (ie handle!) improper behavior.
- Vision requirements include close vision (clear vision at 20 inches or less), distance vision (clear vision at 20 feet or more), color vision (the ability to recognize the colors of traffic signals and devices showing standard red, green, and amber), peripheral vision (ability to observe an area that can be seen up and down or to the left or right while eyes are fixed on a given point), depth and perception (three dimensional vision, ability to judge distance and spatial relationships), and ability to adjust focus (ability to adjust the eyes to bring an object into sharp focus).
- Work environment includes open flames, toxic or caustic chemicals, and all season outdoor weather conditions.
- Noise level is very quiet (examples: forest trail, isolation booth for hearing test) to loud (examples: blacksmithing workshop, large earth-moving equipment).
- This position occasionally requires overnight camping in traditional and Better Than LNT shelters or possibly a tent during programming.
- Physical Demands: 10% Sitting, 30% Standing, 20% Walking, 35% Lifting/Carrying/Pushing/Pulling Pounds 5 – 80 lbs
- CPR/First Aid certified (or ability to complete before position begins)
- Anaphylaxis & Epinephrine Auto-Injector certified (or ability to complete before position begins)
- Food handlers certified (or ability to complete before position begins)
- State fishing license (if working with programs that fish)
