The Head Logistics Coordinator (HLC) is a part of the Program Team and assists in the overall logistical management of Outward Bound California’s Southern California program. Areas of oversight include: food program, gear and equipment issue and repair, driving, vehicle fleet coordination and maintenance, inventory management, overall management of course functions and vision, and basecamp food and functions management. This position reports to the Southern California Program Director.

Education and Work Experience
- High school graduate and 1-3 years logistics experience
- Prior Outward Bound or outdoor education logistics experience
Physical and Mental Requirements
- Sitting at desk or computer 25% of time
- Able to lift and carry loads of up to 50 pounds several times per day
- Able to work long hours doing physical work. Be sufficiently fit to participate in all required activities
- Comfortable with general camping skills and camping in desert environments. Comfortable working outdoors, regardless of weather or conditions
- On feet 75% of time performing logistical tasks in temps ranging from below freezing to above 100 degrees
- 15% of time traveling to front country course areas or other Outward Bound California base camps
- Able to maintain composure and exhibit sound decision-making under extended periods of stress
Additional Qualifications
- Willing to complete a federal background check, Live Scan background check, MVR check and provide current negative TB test results and a medical form upon hire (cost of all screening paid for or reimbursed by OBCA)
- Must hold a valid Driver’s License and be willing to acquire (or current holder of) a California Class Class C with passenger endorsement license within 1 month of start date
- Must be 21 or older
- Hold a basic First Aid (8hr) and CPR or equivalent
- Hold a current CA Food Handlers certification

Responsibilities
Logistical Support

- Responsible for creating and maintaining exceptional warehouse and food room organization, operation and cleanliness that are in compliance with state and federal regulations
- Coordinate and oversee all pre/post season gear transitions between basecamp locations, including driving to our High Sierra location
- Oversee logistical support to ensure that courses remain true to Outward Bound’s mission, purpose and core values
- Oversee equipment inventory, and supervise issue of equipment and supplies for courses
- Manage annual equipment inventories within allowable budget
- Manage all on-site program equipment repairs
- Responsible for overseeing all program and basecamp food inventory, purchasing and management of food budget
- Assist Program Manager with week-to-week operation and coordination of student/course transportation
- Scheduled as Logistics Coordinator (LC) for 1 course; potential to support in LC duties as needed
- Oversee vehicle use, scheduling and routine maintenance. Deliver driver’s training for administrative and field staff
- Shuttle students in 15 passenger van when necessary
Staff Management
- Mentor logistical support staff in logistical functions and responsibilities
- Facilitate daily support staff meetings, as needed
- Ensure support staff compliance with the National Safety Policies and Procedures and all Charter Operating Policies and Procedures
- Provide ongoing training and development opportunities for support staff, as needed
Site Support
- Assist with clarifying basecamp expectations and upkeep. Participate in daily community meetings and chores. Serve as Base Manager for visiting field staff. Provide basecamp orientation to new and returning staff.
- Perform basic maintenance to basecamp, as experience allows
