Mountain Alliance is seeking a talented and uniquely qualified individual to lead our non-profit organization in this next chapter as the Executive Director (ED). The ED will have overall responsibility for leading and driving this awesome youth serving organization and will report to the Board of Directors.  A strong candidate will be an excellent communicator, motivated, organized, have strong interpersonal skills, and be comfortable engaging with both teenagers and community stakeholders alike. Passion for serving youth, experiential education and after-school programs are a must. 

This is a full-time, year-round position that involves supervising programs across multiple counties.  Some evening and weekend trips and on-call support may be required. Salary is competitive and depending on experience, with a benefits package.  

 Responsibilities include, but are not limited to: 
 Overall organizational leadership. 

  • Leading a group of 3-5 full time staff members, and 15+ part time staff tasked with delivering high quality, educational programming for teenagers. 
  • Overseeing the experiential education and after-school programming areas of Mountain Alliance. 
  • Developing a strong vision for the future of youth service. 
  • Ensuring that programs are carried out with high levels of quality and risk management. 
  • Ability to promote a healthy, happy and supportive team through positive leadership and caring support. 
  • Excellent verbal communication skills. Ability to be personable and positive with all stakeholders, staff and students. 

 Fundraising, grant writing and donor engagement.

  • Implementing an aggressive grant writing strategy to fund Mountain Alliance programs. This includes managing grants calendar for timely application submissions, reports and updates. 
  • Building and maintaining strong relationships with donors and funding stakeholders, including foundations. 
  • Ability to speak publicly to highlight our work and impact with teenagers. 
  • Ability to use donor management software
  • Strong written communication skills and ability to craft well written proposals.
  • Ability to help lead fundraising efforts such as our annual silent auction and Dining Guide.
  • Managing donor communications, relationships and acknowledgements. 

 Board Liaisonship

  • Reporting to a board of directors who have ultimate responsibility for organizational governance. 
  • Being a strong communicator so board members are informed of operations, in order to make well-reasoned decisions. 
  • Helping prepare for monthly board meetings. 
  • Helping recruit board members to ensure a full board. 
  • Working with the board chair to ensure a healthy, engaged and positive board. 

Stakeholder Communication

  • Ability to engage and build rapport with multiple stakeholders including, but not limited to students, parents, school staff/faculty, central office staff and elected officials. 

 Organizational Leadership:

  • Budgeting and financial management. 
  • Ability to understand and prepare financial reports for monthly board meetings. 
  • Knowledge of, or the ability to learn Quickbooks Online. 
  • With input from the board, ability to learn more about and help make organizational decisions such as insurance, partnerships and collaboration with other youth groups, etc. 

 Youth Program Design, implementation and Leadership

  • Ability to design and implement high quality experiential opportunities for youth. This includes cultural activities, outdoor adventure, service learning and travel-based experiences that range from 3 hours to 2 weeks in length. 
  • Leadership in planning educational outcomes, logistics and conservative risk management. 

 Project Management:

  • Highly organized. Ability to manage multiple projects and produce strong results. 
  • Demonstrated experience leading and completing complex projects.

 Preferred qualifications and experience: 

  • 2-5 years of director or assistant director level experience in a camp, outdoor education, non-profit management, youth development or social work setting. 
  • Masters degree in experiential education, recreation or nonprofit management, education, social work, or related field preferred. 
  • Previous grant writing, grant management or fundraising experience is a plus, including experience planning events. Ability to provide writing samples to demonstrate written communication skills. 
  • Experience and certifications leading general and/or outdoor experiential education. 
  • Demonstrated passion and experience in experiential education or youth development.
