Job Description

Lead and Assistant Instructors wanted for wilderness skills youth camp positions in Colorado to travel and teach in Boulder, Grand Junction and Durango.

Ideal instructor candidates are conscientious and creative with experience teaching and working outside with youth and/or adults. They are able to work without supervision and can confidently deliver a quality curriculum, manage groups and behaviors, and communicate effectively and promptly as needed.  Background in wilderness/outdoor skills is desired for Lead Instructors however for the right person (passionate, curious, responsible) we provide training and support to develop these skills on the job to act as Assistant Instructors.

This job provides training, professional creativity and autonomy, outdoor work, and the opportunity to make a difference with youth. Traveling instructors are flexible, able to improvise, and are excited to travel and camp week to week.  

Week long programs are Mon-Fri, 35-40 hours. It is standard for two instructors to work with up to 14 youth participants, teaching skills such as fire, knife work, shelter building, foraging, knots, tracking, navigation, archery, fishing, etc. We partner with the local Parks and Recreation department, hosting camps in public city and/or state parks. Our programs are age appropriate for youth between 6 – 14 years old.. There are also traveling positions available in Oregon and Washington. For travelling instructor positions instructors are responsible for travel and lodging/camping/car camping through the Summer (We have a network of resources to assist with this and travelling instructors are paid at the higher end of the scale to compensate for the additional commitment.)

Pay Scale: $18-$24/hr DOE

Dates: Staff training June 13-17 in Corvallis, OR and camps run from June 20 – Aug 26, 2022. There may be opportunities to train prior as well.  For the Colorado position work will commence the first week of June and training will need to be handled as needed depending on Instructor experience

Hours: 9:00am – 4:00pm (approximately) Monday – Friday.

Requirements: First Aid/CPR Certification – If you are not already certified, there will be a training offered during our June staff training in Corvallis.
