The Camp Cook prepares and serves healthy and nutritious meals to camp participants and staff. The incumbent maintains appropriate health standards and adequate levels of food supplies. The incumbent sets tables, clear tables, washes dishes and performs other cleaning as directed.
Work with the Program Director and Food Service manager to create a weekly menu for staff and campers.
Use the Upper Lakes Food ordering service to make bi-weekly order, ensuring adequate food supplies for the week’s meals.
Provide direction and oversight to the kitchen staff to ensure high quality meals for camp participants and staff.
Assists in preparing and serving healthy and nutritious meals to camp participants and staff.
Utilizes leftover food in meal preparations as appropriate and safe to minimize waste.
Documents and reports when inventory quantities are low in stockroom, freezer and cooler.
Maintains clean and safe kitchen work areas, stockroom, freezer, refrigerator, dining room, dish room and loading dock in accordance with State of Minnesota health regulations.
Practices personal hygiene and cleanliness in handling food.
This position reports to the Camp Food Service Manager who reports to the Camp Program Director or Executive Director. This position may take work direction from the Cook. The incumbent interacts regularly with kitchen workers, campers, participants, volunteers, and staff.
Required:
Prior experience working in food preparation
Knowledge of kitchen operating procedures and food handling and storage
Effective interpersonal communication skills
Upon hire, completion of YMCA provided First Aid, CPR and Oxygen certification.
Preferred:
Education or training in nutrition.
Requires lifting up to 50 pounds
Requires ability to safely operate all necessary kitchen equipment and cleaning supplies. (The incumbent utilizes equipment which can be potentially dangerous to include knives, ovens, meat slicers, mixers, broilers, and cleaning chemicals.)
Ability to stand for long periods of time
