Camp Wa-Ya is Hiring for Summer 2024!

We are a nonprofit camp in Olympia, WA, that focuses on outdoor adventure, science education, and Indigenous knowledge. Lead & Assistant Adventure Camp Instructors (Trip Leaders) – Overnight Trips

Lead and Assistant Adventure Instructors will work June 12th through August 30th. Our Lead Adventure Instructors lead a group on overnights in the backcountry (4-day, 3-night kayaking and backpacking trips). The Lead and Assistant Adventure Instructor will be partnered together to design safety and route plans, teach lessons, run activities, and organize games for your group of up to 10 campers, ages 13-16.

The Lead Adventure Instructor will teach sea kayaking, backpacking and camping skills including basic kayaking skills such as standard paddle strokes, tracking and navigation, wet exits and assisted reentry; dressing and packing for the elements (including how to pack a backpack and sea kayak); camp safety including Leave No Trace principles; outdoor survival skills. Assistant Adventure Instructors assist in the overall management of day-to-day camp operations, instruction, and logistics necessary for the support and delivery of science & adventure-based activities.

We are also hiring a Lead Day Camp Counselor to work with campers ages 6-13 in our day camp program, teaching lessons related to marine biology, forest ecology, and survival skills.

Compensation:

Lead Instructors(Counselors): $720 per week ($18.00 per hour equivalent) plus $100/night for trips

Additional training such as WFA/WFR, kayak skills, and other safety certifications may be provided for the right candidates. Not local? Wa-Ya has resources to help you find affordable housing!
