The Montessori School of Lake Forest is expanding our team and seeking an Outdoor Education Teacher for the 2022-23 school year. The Outdoor Education Teacher must work with children 15 mos-14 yrs to nurture, guide and teach outdoor education utilizing the Montessori method. The ideal candidate will be knowledgeable of the outdoor environment, reliable and possess a patient, positive and firm but respectful manner toward children in his/her care.

Responsibilities include:

• Ability to maintain confidentiality and supportive respect for colleagues, children and families (required)
• Work with classroom teachers to develop outdoor lessons that follow Montessori principles
• Observe children, supporting class rules and class procedures, and overall supervision of the classroom
• Prepares and maintains an orderly and sustainable environment, including care of materials, classroom stocking, organization and daily cleaning
• Works with children to develop independence and knowledge of the outdoor environment through plant studies, animal studies, etc.
• Always projecting supportive attitude and employing positive language in all communications with all members of the school community at all times
• If directed, maintain current, accurate classroom records.

Qualifications include:

• Required: Bachelor’s degree
• Preferred: degree in related field, prior experience working with children, First Aid & CPR training/certification
• Montessori experience or certification a plus
• Good communication skills and strong work ethic
• Ability to collaborate, multi-task and learn through observation and modeling
