Job Summary

The Assistant Camp Director will direct the camp in daily duties to include supervising staff and providing support to the business functions of resident camp by performing camp activities, business and administrative tasks as outlined below. The priorities also aim to include diversity, equity, inclusion, belonging, and access to ensure delivery of the best quality Girl Scout leadership experience for girls.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

1.    Assist in supervision of the administration and direction of summer camp program.
2.    Communicate regularly with Camp Director providing camp updates.
3.    Complete pre-camp training with Camp Director to effectively and efficiently operate camp all summer long.
4.    Assist with evaluations mid-summer and end of summer for Supervisors. 
5.    Credit Card maintenance on Camp Credit card(s), file monthly report for approval with Camp Director. 
6.    Upon check-in and check-out, welcome families, trouble shoot. Make sure all staff accounted for and units are prepared accordingly. 
7.    Ensure staff clock-in and clock-out accurately throughout the summer.
8.    Assist in the planning of and assist in conducting staff orientation and training.  Attend all trainings and meetings.
9.    Maintain American Camper Association documentation.   Assist in all inspections. 
10.    Make sure all staff are following through with their job descriptions. Assist with assigning staff activities and other responsibilities.
11.    Manage the monitoring of safety and all procedures as they pertain to the complete supervision of all staff and campers.
12.    Help provide an atmosphere for developing good morale and wellbeing among staff and promote team collaboration.
13.    Must be able to drive camp vehicle and be physically able to respond to emergency situations.
14.    Maintain effective public relations with parents, vendors, and members of the community.
15.    Be aware of camper and staff behavior always, assess the appropriateness, enforce the safety regulations and emergency procedures, and apply appropriate behavior management techniques.  Take charge and in a calm and collected manner. 
16.    Evaluate the current season and make suggestions for the following season.
17.    Supervise the opening and closing of camp, return supplies and vehicles to corporate offices. 

JOB QUALIFICATIONS – – Knowledge, skills and abilities

  1. Minimum 25 years of age.
  2. Current CPR, AED, and First Aid certification required (provided by GSTOP).
  3. Commitment to the mission and purpose of Girl Scouting.
  4. Membership in Girl Scout organization.
  5. Must be willing to work with all persons without regard to race, religion, ethnic origin, socio-economic status, sexual orientation, age, or disability.
  6. Experience and/or education in general Outdoor Education or Girl Scouts.
  7. Ability to coordinate on-site business activities.
  8. Desire and ability to work with children and adults in a camp community. 
  9. Proven ability to effectively manage multiple priorities, meet deadlines and produce results.
  10. Ability to work a flexible schedule including nights and weekends.
  11. Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite including Outlook, Word, Excel and PowerPoint.
  12. Verbal fluency, good grammar, and professional appearance.
  13. Have and maintain a valid Texas driver’s license with an acceptable driving record, acceptable insurance, and reliable transportation.
  14. Must complete and pass a criminal background and motor vehicle check, and drug screening.

  • The employee should be able to lift and/or move up to 50 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this position include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, and the ability to adjust focus. The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate.
  • Ability and willingness to work in an environment which includes exposure to environmental allergens including, but not limited to, dust, mold, pollen, live birds, insects, and other animals.
  • The employee is expected to work and live on-site for the full duration of the camp season, including staff training week and post camp clean-up week at a minimum June 6 through July 30.  Part-time hours will begin prior to June in preparation for camp.

CERTIFICATIONS/LICENSES

Current CPR, AED, and First Aid certification required (provided if not already current).
