POSITION SUMMARY: Provide safe, engaging, and progressive boating activities (primarily canoeing and kayaking) at the lake, including training first time boaters as well as more experienced participants.
BASIC FUNCTION AND RESPONSIBILITY
Live in a cabin with a co-counselor and 8 campers, and provide active supervision and attention to the physical and emotional wellbeing of campers during all on-duty hours.
Provide canoe and kayak programming at the lake and maintain the quality of boating and fishing supplies in the lakefront boating shed.
Complete lifeguard shifts at the pool as needed.
Communicate and enforce all aquatics policies and procedures with staff and campers to ensure a safe waterfront.
Actively participate in camp programming outside of lakefront activities including evening activities, camper choice time, bus duty, and more.
COMPENSATION AND BENEFITS
This position is compensated at a rate of $650 per week plus a $50 weekly bonus for valid lifeguard certification during weeks worked, pre-tax.
Our summer seasonal staff are paid on a bi-weekly basis and are classified as exempt, seasonal employees.
Position requires a lifeguard certification. PEAK can provide training prior to employment.

REQUIREMENTS & CERTIFICATIONS
Must reside on the LVC resident camp property in Boscobel, WI starting with two weeks of staff training in June and ending after the last camp program lets out in mid-August.
Must be at least 18 and/or have a high school diploma or GED to apply.
Current Lifeguard Certification (PEAK can provide training prior to employment)
REPORTING AND RELATIONSHIPS
The Boating Program Counselor will report to the Aquatics Coordinator and receive guidance from the Assistant Director of Camp Programs & Expeditions.
PHYSICAL DEMANDS/WORKING CONDITIONS
The pool at LVC is an outdoor facility and the camp environment is often hot or rainy. You must be able to work outside for sustained periods of time without air conditioning.
Position requires standing, stooping, walking long distances in hilly terrain, and often lifting and moving heavy canoes/boats.
Ability to react quickly to emergency situations, including the ability to enter and exit the pool quickly and potentially assist or lift distressed swimmers of varying weights and heights.
Position requires working weekends and nights, with time off in between camp sessions. Camp days are often long and at times require late night camper support. Staff will have daily scheduled breaks.
