Hi Everyone,
I'm currently working to develop a program for a outdoor/science camp for schools. The normal ages are 4th - 8th grade, with kids coming out for 3-5 days with 1 1/2 hour-long sessions.
The directors would like to integrate a few horses they have left over from the summer program in any way possible. They don't want to include riding, just ground skills (grooming), some horse handling (leading), and other similar activities. I'm also tossing around the idea of including observation skills like: what is different about these horses/what's the same, looking at function vs form/why horses' bodies are formed the way they are, etc. as well as discussions on color/size/etc.
So, I'm putting out a query to see if anyone does a program like this and would mind sharing their experiences with me.
Thanks!
If I were you, I would try to connect with Pam McPhee from The Browne Center at UNH. She is an accomplished Equestrian as well as an outdoor ed guru. She has been developing some amazing horse programs. She is the Executive Director at The Browne Center and a kind giving soul. She might also have other contacts for you.
Good luck to you!
I have not given up the dream of being a cowboy!
