Colleagues, I need some help for a research project I'm conducting. Here's my question: when you think of social justice AND experiential/outdoor/adventure education, who in our field - from the halls of academia (i.e., in the way of college faculty) - comes to mind? If you feel knowledgeable enough to comment on this, and can respond to me off-list at rlfrazer@wisc.edu, I'd appreciate it! Thanks much.

I would say Nina Roberts at San Francisco State University and Karen Warren at Hampshire College are the two people who come to mind

I would definitely second Rick's selections, and would add Denise Mitten as well.

I would say that Karen Warren from Hampshire College would be your best bet- she has a great handle on Social Justice in the Adventure Recreation field and she was my second reader for my Thesis when I was at Prescott. She is very nice and very willing to help anyone in the field. I commend you for looking into social justice in outdoor rec as it is a huge area of concern and interest to me. Keep up the good work!

I think of the CCO Outdoor Leadership Team. Every program, experience and design is rooted in a spirit of justice and restoration.  http://olt.ccojubilee.org/olt. They primarily work in partnership with colleges, university and college students.

John Abbott of UVM is a huge mentor for me as far as being an ally for himself and others. He is committed to advocating for the voices of others through national presentations, workshops, and promoting participation of others to do the same.

Although I would maintain my call of John Abbott, I must also agree with Keith Crawford. Dave Genova has done much more than this humble man has been given exposure for. Not only did he establish the UNITY project, this project has now been responsible for an Israel/Pakistan Unity project where adolescents from both countries expedition together and learn elements of mutual respect, social justice and equality between, among, and within their own cultures.

Kudos to Dave Genova.....
